It’s official – you’ve committed to designing (or re-designing) your website! This is a huge marketing milestone, and I know it took some work to get here, so I applaud you.
Beyond the strategic discussions including your hopes and goals for your site, identification of your target audience, and a competitive analysis, I find clients often get “stuck” on tangible items required to start the design phase. To help keep things moving forward, I’ve pulled together a checklist of what I’ll need from you to take your website project from concept to reality. Let’s take a look:
Brand Assets
- Your company logo – vector art (.eps, .svg, .ai); or png format
- Brand guide (if you have one)
- Preferred fonts
Photography/Video
- Images that are unique to your company taken by a professional photographer (if you don’t have any, we can work together to procure suitable stock photography)
- Photo resolution: high resolution is best to start (300dpi or 228pdi); pixel width of 1920 or greater (a smart phone will snap photos that meet these requirements)
- Videos – MP4 format is best, embeds placed onto a third party platform like YouTube or Vimeo is preferred
Site Map
- Site architecture including top level navigation items and all subpages beneath
Content
- Complete or raw content for all web site pages – we can help with your content strategy, wordsmithing and optimization of content for web if need be
- A brief description of any functional components needed on your site for discussion (example: e-commerce functionality)
Likes/Dislikes
- A list of websites that you find aesthetically pleasing, even if they don’t relate to your industry
- Examples of websites or pages that you find difficult to use or displeasing to the eye
Additional
- Domain Name Server information for launch – we’ll need to know the server where your domain lives, and obtain access to its records
